We, the Austin, Minnesota Mayor and City Council Members, make the following commitments to the citizens we serve. We will:

 

  1. Represent the city in a positive and supportive manner.
  2. Approach all city council issues with an open mind. Prepare to make the best decisions for everyone involved.
  3. Come prepared to contribute, having read the agenda and all background support material.
  4. Observe the city’s parliamentary procedures and display courteous conduct at all meetings.
  5. Once a city council decision is made, the debate ends and the majority decision is respected and backed by all members of the council.
  6. Agree to serve on or as a liaison with commissions or affiliated organizations as requested by the council. As a council representative or liaison we will:

    a.  Attend meetings as appropriate.
    b.  Give reports of meetings to the city council as necessary.
     

  7. Establish as a high priority attendance at all meetings of the city council and other committees that we serve on.
  8. Maintain the establishment of policy as the key job of the city council, respecting the management responsilibitesresponsibilities of staff, while continuing to monitor the results.
  9. Participate in activities that enhance our skills as city council members.
  10. Focus our efforts on the mission and goals of the city and not on our personal goals.
  11. Never exercise authority as a single council member except when acting in a meeting with the full city council or as delegated by the full city council.
  12. Keep CONFIDENTIAL information CONFIDENTIAL.
  13. Endeavor to make the best interests of the community as a whole a our primary consideration when formulating city policies and takingspecial interests inside or outside of the city attempt to influence official council actions.
  14. Not use service on the city council for personal advantage or for the advantage of friends and supporters.
  15. Do nothing to violate the trust of the electorate and of the other members of the city council.
