The City of Austin is currently accepting applications in order to fill fulltime police officer positions and maintain an eligibility list. Applications will be accepted through June 30, 2023; with an on-going review of candidates. Testing and interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis; candidates will be contacted for scheduling.
Placement within the identified ranges, are dependent upon experience. Successful, entry level employees, without sworn officer experience, will move to the top step within five years. Successful employees, hired with sworn officer experience, as determined by the city, can move to the top step in less than five years.
Successful new hires, receive up to $5,000 towards student loan(s), or if they don’t have student loans, they can be reimbursed, up to $5,000, for relocation expenses; if choosing to relocate to the City of Austin. Current City of Austin employees can receive up to $1,000 for referring a police officer candidate, who is successfully hired by the city.
Minimum education requirement is an Associate’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field. There is no minimum amount of experience required. Applicants need to be POST licensed (or eligible for licensure) by time of hire. Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license, pass a full background investigation, along with psychological and physical examination.
