Finance Director
The City of Austin is seeking a strategic and experienced Finance Director to lead the City’s financial operations with integrity, innovation, and a commitment to public service.  This executive-level position is responsible for overseeing key functions including budgeting, financial planning, risk management, and fiscal reporting. The Finance Director plays a critical role in ensuring transparency, accountability, and the long-term financial sustainability of the City.

PAY RANGE
2025 Salary Range is $49.76 – $71.08 per hour.
Starting salary is dependent on experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (summary)

  • Leads financial planning, forecasting, and long-range fiscal strategy for the City.
  • Oversees investment management, budget coordination, and capital project funding.
  • Prepares financial reports and data to support informed decision-making.
  • Attests the signature of the Mayor on bonds, financial notes, and other financial documents requiring endorsement by the City, and performs related duties connected to financial instruments of the City.
  • Communicates plans, policies, and procedure to staff and public.
  • Administers risk management programs, including insurance, retirement, and fire relief.
  • Directs payroll, accounts payable, and reconciliation of financial ledgers.
  • Reviews the collection of taxes, fees, and other receipts.
  • Serves as Chief Financial Advisor to the City Administrator and supports labor negotiations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education

A four-year bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a closely related field is required.

Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience in municipal Accounting, Finance, Business, or closely related field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must be eligible for bonding.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION

Trainings, Certificates and Licenses

  • Possession of a Public Finance Officer Certification
