Duties of the Human Resources department include:

  • Serving as the City’s contact for the hiring process including – advertisement, receiving applications of employment, application review and interviewing process
  • Maintenance of personnel files and contact for employee/employment relations
  • Provide oversight and administration of employee labor agreements and participate as a management team member in the negotiation process
  • Provide benefit oversight, coordination and assistance to employees and providers (health/life insurance, flexible spending, etc.)
  • Ensure state and federal mandates related to personnel issues are being followed/implemented
  • Provide employment verification (includes position title, employment starting & ending dates and salary)
  • Serve as the City’s safety manager
  • Serve as the liaison to the Human Rights Commission and Police & Fire Civil Service Commissions


Water Quality Specialist/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician

The City of Austin is looking to fill this position which is responsible for the administrative and technical duties in association with the City Storm Water Management Plan, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (MS4 Permit), and other water quality related studies/plans. Responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of the GIS system for storm sewer, sanitary sewer, street lights, streets and trails. Technical duties include; drawing, recording and filing of engineering documents, inspection, review, design and enforcement. 

This is a fulltime, non-exempt position and includes a complete benefit package with a wage range of $25.78 – $30.69.  Minimum requirements include: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and two years of related technical or college training in civil engineering technology or natural sciences with specialized training in storm water management and/or collection systems; two years of related technical or college training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or related field such as Geography, Engineering Technology, Computer Science with an emphasis in GIS coursework and training; and two (2) years’ related experience; or any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.

Job Description


Street Maintenance (Chauffeur)

The City of Austin has an opening for fulltime general duty work within our Street Department, a department of the Public Works Department.  This position performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance work and equipment operation in the areas of construction, maintenance, repair and replacement of City streets, including snow removal.  Position may include occasional and sporadic seasonal arena maintenance.

This is a fulltime, non-exempt position and includes a complete benefit package with a wage range of $21.37 – $25.44.  Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent, valid state driver’s license with Class A CDL Certification, plus 3 years’ experience in construction, maintenance or repair.  Complete application packet and supplemental questionnaire must be submitted by 5:00 PM, Friday, November 9, 2018.

Job Description


Administration & Clerk Specialist

The City is looking to fill this position which will provide administrative support to the City Administrator, Director of Administrative Services, Human Resources Director, Mayor and Council.  Position performs routine clerical and administrative work in filing, verifying and recording information, receiving the public, providing customer assistance, cashiering and data processing.  Answers in-coming calls on main switchboard for city hall and route callers or provides information as required.

This is a fulltime, non-exempt position and includes a complete benefit package with a wage range of $20.73 – $24.68.  Minimum requirements include: (1) Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, computer applications, filing and computers; and (2) two-years’ experience in a clerical position.  Excellent computer and communication skills and high attention to detail required.
